News about Fuller Laboratories
Rickettsia
Rickettsia are zoonotic obligate intracellular bacteria of the family Rickettsiaceae. They are associated with arthropods, primarily ticks, but also including fleas, body lice and mites, which serve as the main reservoir. These arthropods also serve as vectors of rickettsiosis while feeding on both humans and animals.
Rickettsia tests are available in IFA, MIF and ELISA format.
More information
Babesia
Babesia microti, Babesia duncani (WA1), Babesia divergens and Babesia sp. (MO1) are obligate intra-erythrocytic protozoans transmitted by tick vectors, causing flu-like symptoms as well as a malaria-like illness in humans. All four agents can be transmitted by blood donor units from asymptomatic donors.
Fuller offers IFA kits to detect Babesia microti and Babesia divergens.
More information
Anaplasma
Anaplasma are zoonotic obligate intracellular alpha-proteobacteria of the family Anaplasmataceae. Ticks serve as reservoirs and vectors of anaplasmosis while feeding on both humans and animals. The antibody response to infections by both Anaplasma phagocytophilum and A. platys is primarily directed against outer-membrane protein antigens and is most often detected using standard IFA and MIF methods. Fuller offers test kits for both methods.
